Hello Kitty Cupcake Tower

I just love Hello Kitty so I couldn't resist making these for a birthday party. I think this is a classic theme and it is appreciated more by the older ones than the present day kids. It's more for the kids-at-heart.=)

I made a gumpaste figure for the cake topper of the top tier. My criteria is that she should have a oversized head to look cute....
I made a 7-inch cake for the top tier and covered it with seven-minute frosting.
I made a 7-inch cake for the top tier and covered it with seven-minute frosting and 50 cupcakes to fill the lower 4-tiers. I wish I'll also get to have a Hello Kitty party on my next birthday!~ =)

Soccer Themed Cake

Soccer-themed birthday parties are quite popular these days probably due to the increased interest of Filipinos in the sport and the gaining popularity of the Azkals. Two weeks ago I made cupcakes for a birthday celebration but this time it got bigger and became a cake!

I finally made my perfect hexagon with the aid of a star shaped cookie cutter. I just had to cut all its arms and lo and behold I got my evenly shaped black and white pieces to assemble as my soccer ball and I was really pleased with the results.

The celebrant's name is AJ so I thought of putting the name and the age in the shirt as a detail. I wish I had a much better icing tip to resemble grass, oh well.  I guess I just have to include it in my 'Things to Buy' list when I have the opportunity to get more cake decorating stuff. I'm thinking of doing a specific team rather than opting for a general one next time for variety.

Happy 8th Birthday AJ! I hope you liked your cake as much as I did! ^^

Soccer Themed Cupcakes

I actually had to make a back to back themed cupcake party since there were two birthday celebrants. The sister asked for a photography theme while the brother mentioned that he likes soccer. I instantly thought of making soccer balls since it seemed like the most common thing to do. Boy, I was wrong. The balls were not that simple to make for I have no tool that could make perfect mini hexagons. I tried shaping hexagons using my bare hands but they came out uneven and the looked really horrible. They didn't came near to looking like soccer balls, oh well. I finally thought of just painting the hexagons on white fondant. It didn't look quite impressive but that was the best I thought I could do. Oh, I made the jerseys and the shoes much earlier so that I could spend more time just brainstorming on the balls.

I promised myself that I'll do much better in making soccer balls next time! ^^

The 'Happy Birthday' lettering on the cupcakes.

Lettering on the names of the birthday celebrants: Ivan and Shivaun.^^
